BIO

The United Kingdom has created many dance sensations and it appears as if Luke Ellis, aka Luki, is destined to follow in the same path – albeit from twenty thousand kilometres away in Brisbane, Australia. Back as a young lad in ’92, Luki migrated across the Indian Ocean and to the sunshine state in Queensland, where today he’s widely considered as one of the more prominent dance artists of the present times. Seriously, rattle off his stage-name to anybody in the always-busy clubbers-paradise known as Fortitude Valley and you’ll instantly understand what we mean. Why you ask? Because since the young age of 20-years-old, Luki has prospered behind the decks, and consequently, has the lengthy list of achievements to show for it. Now 24, he’s previously held down residencies at the trendy GPO and at the moment, controls the hard party-loving dance floor at Monastery from Dirty Thursday’s right through to the more mainstream evening of Saturday night. Let us not forget about Sydney either, where Luki once regularly played to large crowds at prestigious nightspots such as Moulin Rouge – the home of ’09 Clubber’s Guide Host Bass Kleph – alongside travelling up and down the state to various nightclubs in his much-loved adopted state of QLD. But behind the man who loves DJ’ing at nightclubs and the electrifying atmosphere that comes with it, is a guy who equally enjoys the hard work, respect and props that comes with bangin’ out a fresh original or remixed production in the studio. As such, since the age of 22 when Luki first developed his own personal studio, he has released three well-received remixes – one of which managed to reach the astounding position of 39 on DJ Download’s Top 100 with limited promotion. In addition, it’s under the guise of Frousse that Luki spends many of his ‘spare’ hours producing alongside close friend and fellow Monastery resident DJ Danny T. And as was always to be expected, his solo production success has extended onto the fortunes of the dynamic duo, with Frousse already having been lucky enough to see two of their collaboration remixes released. This brings us to now, with Luki set to hit the ground running in 2009 with his ambitious aspirations positioning himself well for what should be yet another musically rewarding year. At the forefront of these goals is the soon-to-be released ‘Luki EP’ which features four mind-blowing originals to be released in late February. And then there’s the honest pledge from Luki himself to remain busy, motivated and to create more remixes than ever before in ’09. Six years ago when this all began, music was just a hobby. Now, it’s an out-and-out lifestyle which he loves and wouldn’t trade for the world. But perhaps most importantly in today’s credit-crunch affected world where workers are seemingly losing their jobs willy-nilly, Luki’s love for the music will undoubtedly ensure that this is only the beginning of what will ultimately be considered a glamorous career timeline in the Australian dance industry.
