MONEY RAMBLE...

Summer time has finally hit us, Christmas is close and yet another year is nearly over, before we felt it had even begun. A lot has happened this year, the world economy has crumbled into turmoil, a new President has taken his seat in the White House and a pop legend has died. With everyday life only getting busier for most, what can you say you have achieved this year? The majority wouldn’t have time to think about it, let alone have the time to read this blog. We work all our lives for one thing… money, at what point do we make enough to know or feel as though we have achieved something?..

I can’t really say Im not money hungry, but I do sometimes find myself thinking about the future, where will I be in 15 years time? What job will I have? How much money will I have made? These questions are what drive us and keep us working endlessly. No one likes the idea of being “stuck in a rut” and not having the things they want in life. But at what point can we stop, sit back enjoy ourselves? When does the quest for the best end? There are millions of people in the world that live in third world countries that would have no idea what a plasma screen looks like, let alone know what it is. Yet these people live their lives happily with the bare minimums and even in some in the poorest of conditions. Whilst we would not survive 2 hours without twitter, Facebook or our IPhones.

We as a human race have one thing in common, everybody at some point in their life wish’s for some kind of eternal happiness. For some eternal happiness is a spiritual “thing” or state of mind, whilst for the majority of people I encounter or know it’s believed to be a point in your life that is reached where you have everything you want, and then some.

It is now, in this day and age our instinct to want more, we will never return back to a simple life of no material “things”. I can admit I wouldn’t be able to live with out my Macbook, iphone or my car, which Im sure most of you would agree, but it is depressing to think; the chase to be richer will never be over. For the rest of our lives we will be hunting one thing, money. Where there is an opportunity for the green bills to be made, we will take any means necessary to exploit it. It will be the death of the majority of us and it will ruin families and lives. Money is the number one addiction in our world and nobody can stop it.

So whilst we search, work and hunt for the next pay check, remember their once upon a time was more to life. Just because society today is built around world banks doesn’t mean they have to rule our lives. Plan what you want in life, work for it, get it and be satisfied with yourself and what you have accomplished.

…We warned you about the ramble….

Freeformers Top 5! By Bobby York

We've been a bit slack with this top 5, we are keen to get it happening every week or so with one of our company dj's featuring their 5 favourite tracks at the moment. This week we have Bobby York showing some underground tunes that are all worth a listen.

ENJOY!!!

Oxia - Whole Life

This is a new track by the well established Oxia who has quite an extensive discography,in his latest 'Sun Step' EP release on 8Bit records he has really nailed it on the head especially with the track 'Whole Life',
this track has to be one of the tech-house tracks of the year, it has soul it has rhythm, the production on this track is masterclass, the bassline is solid and really fits well with
the groove he has set to this track,.i'd love to hear this at a late afternnon set going into the night, would definantly set the mood!!

Fake Blood - I Think I Like It

From his new EP 'Fix your Accent' comes the track 'I Think I Like It' this tracks a little different from some other recent realeases of fake blood's but it is definantly winning him over new fans, here he has taken a catchy vocal put it behind an awesome energetic house rhythm!..the way he uses the numerous samples and instruments in this track is nothing but pro, this track has had great dj support,i do remember myself hearing beni drop it at parklife 09!!

Adam Shaw - Frog Face

This is a new realease for Adam Shaw on Mark Knight's Toolroom Records and its one hell of a chunky tech record, this track makes you want to do nothing but dance, the way the vocal fits with the drum loop is perfect, the synth stabs really makes the trak keep its momentum, this is the kind of track that would definantly get people out of there seat!

Nipp - Engineer

This is a new release for the relatively unheard of Nipp on Tribal Vision Recordings, this would have to be my favourite track of the new EP, the melody in the this track
is a guess the word to describe it is soothing,i love the way he keeps this track deep while having a driving bass synth to keep it dancefloor as fuck, this track is a great listen and of my favourites for the
year without a doubt.

Phelps - Pitfield Girl

This is a track by Phelps, his debut release onto beatport as well as Eskimo Records, this one is coming with a straight up indie sound, this track is very uplifting and i think would go down well at the end of a set, it has a nice catchy melody which some massive synth sounds and yes anyone getting into the ever growing indie sound
be sure to grab a copy!@beatport.com

BLACK CANDY feat. PASE ROCK!

If your planning to head out later in the week, Thursday night is the night to hit the town! The guys from BLACK CANDY are bringing you one Dj not to be missed, PASE ROCK (DIM MAK/NYC) at EMPIRE.. The night is sure to be a big one so don't be the one left out!

Pase Rock is a founding member of the hip hop group Five Deez and has performed with Spank Rock since 2005. Pase Rock has arrived on the scene to devastate all assumptions about the collaboration between hip-hop, electro, and disco. He wants to school you in the ways of the new hybrid, which breathes a new joint union of styles.
Pase proclaims, “All the time party rockin, never stoppin. Pase, P-Pase, (picky -picky) Pase Rock. Given name Patrick Vaughn, rhymes with magic wand. You want the scoop? Here’s the scoop… It’s a new day. We global, son. You want my bio? Here’s my bio… I’m alive sucka!”
“Get Monkey Kids” is a hip-hop gem, that uses electronic beats and succulent horn lines to complement the signature “get money” vocal lines. “So Fucking Disco”, hence the name, has a disco dance beat with smooth coruses and great percussion. Both songs have become club favorites in the electro / indie dance scene in Los Angeles. A New Yorker with a flair for musical styles from around the world, Pase is destined to teach America in the ways of party music!

Make sure you get in support Black Candy, we certainly will be!

ICE CREAM MONDAY - EPISODE #4

'Making life a little more delicious, one week at a time'

Note to self: Contains 4% caramelised sugar pieces – Awesome!

So there I was…. Sitting on my patio…. Pondering the universe as I often do… indulging in a bit of a ‘hat party’ with some close friends

When I ventured out to my local corner store to invest in the discovery of another revelation in the now prominent academic theory of ‘ice-creamatics’.

Today’s episode comes from a special place; revered by most, particularly amongst the music industry with some sort of magical, heaven-like quality. Colombia.

Yes – it’s the MAGNUM: Colombia Aroma (subtitled: Choco-Cappuccino – as if that makes it sound a little more Colombian).

Sealed with the Streets “M” (for passing whatever rigorous quality testing Magnum employ I guess) and boasting “Colombian Selected Coffee” the Colombia Aroma makes quite a statement… especially when its included in such a dramatic photo (see below)

Avant-garde?

Weighing in at approximately 1/16 the size of the top half of an Asian lady and less than a quarter the height of a 2L bottle of Coke (photo included for your reference)

The Colombia Aroma was a winner – especially for the lovers of Coffee out there. It wasn’t as intense as I had expected, and I say with some confidence that its half brother the “Ego” will stay untouched on its podium of “WOAH”. It definitely had something going on, with a faint smokey undertaste of ‘a cappuccino with a bit too much milk’, but that’s the price you pay for making coffee out of ice cream I suppose.

7/10 from me – try it for yourself and spread the love y’all!

ICE CREAM MONDAY - EPISODE #3

'Making life a little more delicious, one week at a time'

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Well what a week!

It’s been a great period of growth this last few days as ICM starts to tap into the central nervous system of Brisbane’s hidden childhood, we’ve been around the town, sampled some wares, made some new friends, and with every new discovery, the doors of summer open that little bit wider.

Please welcome to the stage – THE ICM CONE! You’ll be seeing this bad boy around wherever there’s fun to be had, stories to be told or sugar for your neighbour – we’ll be on the ground with more force than a Greco-roman wrestler at the Wickham.

I’m not going to lie, when this first came across my desk at ICM headquarters, I cried…. And these weren’t like “I stubbed my toe on the fridge door and I’m a little bitch” kinda tears…

These were tears of sugary, life-defining joy.

These are the kinds of discoveries that gave life to Ice Cream Monday; those little moments when you’ve just nailed that last bit of banana split before you slump back into your sun lounge by the pool, that split second of utter confusion when you see far too many flavour combinations than you could possibly hope to comprehend just laid out in a freezer waiting for you to try them all...

Soo-shi – is one of these moments

It’s sushi (which just happens to be one of my other favourite pastimes) but made of ice cream!

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

So here’s the break down - its New Zealand natural ice cream, wrapped in a natural fruit roll (think rollups, but waaaaaaay more real fruit) with a splash of fruit in the middle. Simple. Perfect.

This is the sort of thing you and your wingman would think up at a party and decide would be a great idea to try and make for everyone… usually resulting in a hilarious, yet cataclysmic flavour/presentation catastrophe.

I don’t know which one of the folks at NZNIC thought this up, but my intention is to find them and give them the biggest high five ever know to man... because this – is awesome.

You can buy it individually for $1/piece if you’re the timid, splash the milk on your wrist, “I wear a lifejacket in the bath” kinda person, or lash out and get a whole 6piece extravaganza for $5.70, around the same as a normal plate of sushi.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

On my plate was a selection from each of the 3 pillars of ice cream;
From the top... A sorbet (pretty sure it was mango), a berry frozen yoghurt variety and a straight up ice cream version.

I like to think of it like a little plate of ‘make your own adventure’ – however, it doesn’t matter which way you go, you always end up at the end of the rainbow dancing around in a pot of gold.

I took the infamous alcoholic lighting guy, Matt Smith (y’know I love you Matty) along as a guest reviewer this time, and I suggest you do the same (take someone else, not Matty) when you go try it for yourself, pay it forward y’know.

“A true fusion of East meets West! A sweet, culinary delight” said Matt as he hoovered into a plate like one of those clown heads that your throw balls at (y'know the ones...)
