ICE CREAM MONDAY - EPISODE #3

'Making life a little more delicious, one week at a time'

Well what a week!

It’s been a great period of growth this last few days as ICM starts to tap into the central nervous system of Brisbane’s hidden childhood, we’ve been around the town, sampled some wares, made some new friends, and with every new discovery, the doors of summer open that little bit wider.

Please welcome to the stage – THE ICM CONE! You’ll be seeing this bad boy around wherever there’s fun to be had, stories to be told or sugar for your neighbour – we’ll be on the ground with more force than a Greco-roman wrestler at the Wickham.

I’m not going to lie, when this first came across my desk at ICM headquarters, I cried…. And these weren’t like “I stubbed my toe on the fridge door and I’m a little bitch” kinda tears…

These were tears of sugary, life-defining joy.

These are the kinds of discoveries that gave life to Ice Cream Monday; those little moments when you’ve just nailed that last bit of banana split before you slump back into your sun lounge by the pool, that split second of utter confusion when you see far too many flavour combinations than you could possibly hope to comprehend just laid out in a freezer waiting for you to try them all...

Soo-shi – is one of these moments

It’s sushi (which just happens to be one of my other favourite pastimes) but made of ice cream!

So here’s the break down - its New Zealand natural ice cream, wrapped in a natural fruit roll (think rollups, but waaaaaaay more real fruit) with a splash of fruit in the middle. Simple. Perfect.

This is the sort of thing you and your wingman would think up at a party and decide would be a great idea to try and make for everyone… usually resulting in a hilarious, yet cataclysmic flavour/presentation catastrophe.

I don’t know which one of the folks at NZNIC thought this up, but my intention is to find them and give them the biggest high five ever know to man... because this – is awesome.

You can buy it individually for $1/piece if you’re the timid, splash the milk on your wrist, “I wear a lifejacket in the bath” kinda person, or lash out and get a whole 6piece extravaganza for $5.70, around the same as a normal plate of sushi.

On my plate was a selection from each of the 3 pillars of ice cream;
From the top... A sorbet (pretty sure it was mango), a berry frozen yoghurt variety and a straight up ice cream version.

I like to think of it like a little plate of ‘make your own adventure’ – however, it doesn’t matter which way you go, you always end up at the end of the rainbow dancing around in a pot of gold.

I took the infamous alcoholic lighting guy, Matt Smith (y’know I love you Matty) along as a guest reviewer this time, and I suggest you do the same (take someone else, not Matty) when you go try it for yourself, pay it forward y’know.

“A true fusion of East meets West! A sweet, culinary delight” said Matt as he hoovered into a plate like one of those clown heads that your throw balls at (y'know the ones...)
